Hyper Text Report!!
Hypertext is something that was made a while ago, but yet still used today. It was invented by Ted Nelson around 1965. A hypertext is a word or phrase that you can click on that will show you more about that topic or give you background. Sometimes they may even lead to pictures, videos, or songs. They are used to help the reader learn more about something they may not know about. Here is what the reader needs to know to become a good hypertext writer.
First, the difference between hypertext and papertext are two different types of text. Papertext is something you can read, but won’t give you much background if it’s not said. It also keeps the reader in one place, unlike hypertext which the reader can click on to venture off into a different place to learn more about that topic. Other kinds of hypertext are hypertext fiction and hypertext poetry. Hypertext fiction is something that links more to media, such as pictures or defining a word. Hypertext poetry has more links to passages or poems.
Second, some challenges faced while writing hypertext knows if they have too much information or not enough. Also, knowing what should be hyperlinked and what shouldn’t be is crucial. Thinking about what the reader already knows so that the writer doesn’t put too much about something the reader already knows is important. Some challenges a reader may have is that there isn’t enough information in the hypertext to tell you what it means. Maybe something they don’t know isn’t hyperlinked. If the author totally changes subject the reader may not understand it because there isn’t a hyperlink.
Third, when the writer is creating a hyperlink be sure to not put too much text as the hyperlink; it should only be a word or two, not a sentence. Don’t have the link to another page be something that doesn’t go with what is being written. Also the writer should look at other writer’s hypertext. As a new hypertext author, it’s always good to see how it’s being done. Seeing examples is another way of learning what to do and what shouldn’t be done.
Finally, hypertext can go beyond words. With pictures, videos, songs, or anything else they can take the reader into a whole knew world of what they never knew. By doing that the writer teaches then more than they may need to know which a bad thing isn’t. Learning more fills the brain is more knowledge and with more knowledge the reader will be successful in the future.
