    Characters changing

    2010 - 12.23

The characters in Angels in Pink are very realistic and I can see the image in my head. Carson really likes Kathleen but Kathleen is jealous of his friend Stephanie because she and Carson use to go out. Kathleen is a developing character she went from being kind of shy and thinking that she is ugly. Now Kathleen does not think she is ugly and is happy that she has a boyfriend. This change is believable and she only changes a little not dramatically she still hangs out with her normal friends and has the same life besides volunteering at the hospital and going out with Carson. If it was not for Kathleen the whole book would be nothing because the book is based on her story and how her high school life was. Kathleen tries to hide that fact that Stephanie and Carson went out but when she shows up and she is there that makes Kathleen a little mad. Also when Carson doesn’t call Kathleen for a day or two she gets upset and is worried that she is not pretty enough or that he went back to Stephanie. Carson may be a developing character also because he went from being a bad kid getting into trouble but now he has Kathleen to help him with his problems and now he volunteers at the hospital just like she does and her friends. There is some problems with there relationship and how Kathleen can not trust him but she will change and they will end up together until they have the problem of where they are going to college if they are going to separate or not.

    Values

    2010 - 12.14

Melinda is not the best at finding the values in a person and needs to work on that. The important thing about values is that they are trustworthy also they will help you when you are having a hard time. They should be honest and easy to talk to. Most people usually notice looks for there first impression on people but some do have there first impression of how they act like if they are mature or not. Melinda is missing a lot of these values like when Heather was having a bad day Melinda wasn’t really listening she would just nod once in a while or says yes okay. Melinda is very personal which is okay sometimes but you have to talk to your friends because if you don’t why would they want to be your friend. Another value is that you should not use your friend like Melinda did with Heather she only was her friend so she had someone to eat lunch with and talk to so her parents wouldn’t get curious. You shouldn’t have bad values because people might just see them and not the good side of you and not want to talk to you or just talk to you to go and gossip about you too others. Values matter because it shows who you are and if you are going to be a good person or a bad. Melinda needs to work on this but she is not the only one Heather could work on this a little also and so could a lot of others.

    Out West

    2010 - 12.10

Recently I took a vacation to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore and Colorado. I took this vacation last summer with my family and it was for 2 weeks. We took our motor home but it was a really long drive but we stopped a lot on the way. We went to Colorado because some of my family lives there and we stopped to visit them. When I stopped at Mt. Rushmore we walked around there for the day and went to the light show later. I didn’t really like the light show because it got really boring and just talked about history the whole time. We stayed at the campground and I met some new friends. Almost every place we stopped at I met someone. I really liked stopping at Yellowstone and seeing all of the animals. We stayed in Yellowstone for 5 days but the thing I liked most about Yellowstone was the waterfalls along the way and behind the campgrounds. We also went to Bear Country Usa and I liked all of the little cubs that they trained. Colorado was fun also because I got to see two of my cousins I have not seen in a long time. Another cousin went with us and I enjoyed that because I could never go that long with just my sister and brother and parents. Next year we are going again and spending my birthday in Yellowstone I think it will be really fun and I am excited.

    Hypertext

    2010 - 12.10

Hypertext was invented in 1965 by Ted Nelson. He describes himself as “Literary Machines” which is his attempt to put his hypertext thoughts on paper. Hypertext is the text on the web that is underlined and is blue. You can click on this text and it will bring you to a different site. Hypertext can send you to educational sites for more information or it could be on Facebook for a new song that everyone is listening to or a funny picture.

Hypertext has many challenges for the readers and also for the writers. For the reader it could be as simple as the writer putting the wrong link on the hypertext; so you were sent to the wrong site and now reading the wrong information, sometimes without even knowing. For the writers it’s challenging because you have to make sure you put the hypertext in the right spot in the text so it has a purpose. You also have to make sure it is organized and that you did not send your reader the wrong information. As a writer you also have to make sure the site supports your main points and has appropriate language on the page.

Creating hypertext can be a very easy process or a very hard process, but by reading others and seeing examples of other hypertext it may become easier. By reading others you will know what it is suppose to look like and you will also understand that it is important to get sent to the right site. So you will be most likely check it to make sure it works. Also by being a reader you will make sure your site is filled with good information because you may have the experience of getting sent to a non educational site and being annoyed by it and you won’t want to do that to other readers.

Reading can be done in many ways; by book, by web, magazines, and many other ways. Paper text is different then hypertext, hypertext is on the web and on papertext you can’t click on a page and be taken to a different page, but that is what hypertext is all about. Hypertext is written on the web which incorporates the use of hyperlinks; you don’t read hyper text in the same linear way.

Hypertext is not too hard to understand you just have to look at examples and know the real meaning. It’s the underlined word on the web that is usually blue and you can click on it and it brings you to another webpage. By looking at others you will learn that you can not just link it to a random site because it will not give you the right information and it will not be useful. Hypertext is a very important part of the web without it you would have to use a lot more time and have a lot more information on one page.

    Volunteering

    2010 - 12.09

The book I am reading is angels in pink and the book is very much like the title. Angels in pink in the book means volunteering at the hospital. They are called the angels in pink when they volunteer and get shirts that say that on them. The setting sounds very familiar to a normal city and high school life. It is summer vacation and the main conflict is that Kathleen never gets to go out on her own because her mother is in a wheel chair and she has to take care of her. Kathleen is use to it and does anything for her mom and will come right home if she needs anything but her friends think this is unfair. Kathleen loves her mom a lot but doesn’t think she can always be right there and her mom is always on her mind to make sure she is safe. Kathleen’s mom will not eat without her there either so she has to make sure she is home for her mother to eat. There is one other main conflict going on right now and that is Holly and her dad. Her dad does not like how she dresses and will not let her out of the house the way she dresses with low cut shirts and short shorts. Holly finds this unfair because her friends can wear that and not get yelled at. I find that argument as a normal teenage fight with there parents because they want to belong and wear what everyone else is wearing. They also don’t want to get yelled at and just wish there parents understood but I don’t think the fight will last long because tomorrow in the book is father’s day.

    Pink Angels

    2010 - 12.07

I love reading books where it can relate to me. I like these books because I can always see what is happening in my head and I can image the characters. I image the characters as having the same personality as some of my friends. When I image there personalities as my friends in my head the characters end up sort of looking like my friends.

Some of the characters I can relate to as my friends and that would be Kathleen, Holly, and Raina.  I relate to Kathleen the most because she is a brunette and doesn’t care what people think of her. Raina makes me think of my friend Ashley because she always picks where we should go because no one else can decide and is trustworthy. She also speaks her mind and is really good friends with everyone. Holly reminds me of my friend Manda because she is always ready and is up too do what ever anyone else wants to do. She always does the right thing and gets good grades. I think Kathleen, Holly and Raina remind me of me, Ashley and Manda because we were always together in the summer just like they are in the book.

They were going to volunteer at the hospital but were kind of upset because it wouldn’t let Kathleen, Holly and Raina to be together all the time. “They should have been heading to the pool at Raina’s townhome complex for some sun worship instead of to volunteer orientation at the hospital”. This passage states that Raina was getting her orientation at the hospital to volunteer there but Holly and Kathleen were upset because they would rather be getting sun at the pool. I can relate to this because last summer I went to the pool a lot with my friends and when we had to do something else we weren’t always happy about it.

    Marthas Group

    2010 - 12.06

The Marthas are a good group and a bad group; they are a service club if you want to help out around your school. “She is a freshman on probation” (42). This shows the bad side of the Marthas they don’t let anyone join like they should. They also make you wear certain clothes that fit the season. “Marthas are big on helping. The name of their group came from somebody in the bible.”(43). This shows the Marthas good side they help out a lot if it is helping teachers, running a food drive, or even decorating for a holiday they will help out. They are always there for each other and are not very willing to just let anyone in there group which can be a good thing and a bad. This can be good because you don’t want someone joining the Marthas and just taking it as a joke and not really wanting to volunteer. This can be a bad thing also because someone might really want to join but they don’t let them right away and don’t treat them fairly. They are a service club so they should be nice and allow anyone in. They should change the Marthas so they could be a club where anyone could sit with if they have a fight with there friends or want to join a new group. If they are a service club they should not be sending someone on a big mission they should all help out each other so they can finish the task. The Marthas should allow anyone to come and help out even if they are not in the club.
