Humor is a huge part in the book Angels in Pink because during the hard parts of Mary Ellen Kathleen’s mother’s life with MS sometimes that’s the only thing that helps. When Mary is sad and thinking she can not make it another day Kathleen brings her right back up with her sense of humor and company. Kathleen is not the only one in the book with a little humor Carson Kathleen’s boyfriend “how about me treating you and your mother for dinner tonight?” This is exactly what Mary Ellen need so she could just relax and not think about how bad the MS was getting. Irony is also in Pink Angels and it usually is dramatic irony. Sometimes Kathleen says something and her mother takes it the wrong way like she doesn’t want to be with her or she is just annoyed of her and it becomes into a dramatic situation. Most of the time Mary Ellen does understand what her daughter is talking about but it is hard because Kathleen’s father died when she was little so it is just her and her mother so it is always something in her head about what will happen to me if my mom passes away. Humor always brings this situation back up but so does Carson who is a popular rich guy from a different school and Kathleen doesn’t have a lot a money because she needs so much for her mom with the wheelchair hospital expenses for checkups so she goes to original school.

Characters changing
The characters in Angels in Pink are very realistic and I can see the image in my head. Carson really likes Kathleen but Kathleen is jealous of his friend Stephanie because she and Carson use to go out. Kathleen is a developing character she went from being kind of shy and thinking that she is ugly. Now Kathleen does not think she is ugly and is happy that she has a boyfriend. This change is believable and she only changes a little not dramatically she still hangs out with her normal friends and has the same life besides volunteering at the hospital and going out with Carson. If it was not for Kathleen the whole book would be nothing because the book is based on her story and how her high school life was. Kathleen tries to hide that fact that Stephanie and Carson went out but when she shows up and she is there that makes Kathleen a little mad. Also when Carson doesn’t call Kathleen for a day or two she gets upset and is worried that she is not pretty enough or that he went back to Stephanie. Carson may be a developing character also because he went from being a bad kid getting into trouble but now he has Kathleen to help him with his problems and now he volunteers at the hospital just like she does and her friends. There is some problems with there relationship and how Kathleen can not trust him but she will change and they will end up together until they have the problem of where they are going to college if they are going to separate or not.
Volunteering
The book I am reading is angels in pink and the book is very much like the title. Angels in pink in the book means volunteering at the hospital. They are called the angels in pink when they volunteer and get shirts that say that on them. The setting sounds very familiar to a normal city and high school life. It is summer vacation and the main conflict is that Kathleen never gets to go out on her own because her mother is in a wheel chair and she has to take care of her. Kathleen is use to it and does anything for her mom and will come right home if she needs anything but her friends think this is unfair. Kathleen loves her mom a lot but doesn’t think she can always be right there and her mom is always on her mind to make sure she is safe. Kathleen’s mom will not eat without her there either so she has to make sure she is home for her mother to eat. There is one other main conflict going on right now and that is Holly and her dad. Her dad does not like how she dresses and will not let her out of the house the way she dresses with low cut shirts and short shorts. Holly finds this unfair because her friends can wear that and not get yelled at. I find that argument as a normal teenage fight with there parents because they want to belong and wear what everyone else is wearing. They also don’t want to get yelled at and just wish there parents understood but I don’t think the fight will last long because tomorrow in the book is father’s day.
Pink Angels
I love reading books where it can relate to me. I like these books because I can always see what is happening in my head and I can image the characters. I image the characters as having the same personality as some of my friends. When I image there personalities as my friends in my head the characters end up sort of looking like my friends.
Some of the characters I can relate to as my friends and that would be Kathleen, Holly, and Raina. I relate to Kathleen the most because she is a brunette and doesn’t care what people think of her. Raina makes me think of my friend Ashley because she always picks where we should go because no one else can decide and is trustworthy. She also speaks her mind and is really good friends with everyone. Holly reminds me of my friend Manda because she is always ready and is up too do what ever anyone else wants to do. She always does the right thing and gets good grades. I think Kathleen, Holly and Raina remind me of me, Ashley and Manda because we were always together in the summer just like they are in the book.
They were going to volunteer at the hospital but were kind of upset because it wouldn’t let Kathleen, Holly and Raina to be together all the time. “They should have been heading to the pool at Raina’s townhome complex for some sun worship instead of to volunteer orientation at the hospital”. This passage states that Raina was getting her orientation at the hospital to volunteer there but Holly and Kathleen were upset because they would rather be getting sun at the pool. I can relate to this because last summer I went to the pool a lot with my friends and when we had to do something else we weren’t always happy about it.
