The Character “Aunt Peg” is probably an auant or person that everyone would want to have. She ran away from her home town because her parents and sisters were the type of people who were so close to “perfect” and she was always the mistake. So she thought that maybe a little change, or running away will help this all out. She runs away and then has the gut to send notes/ letters to her niece hoping that eerything in her hometown is fine. She is the kind of person who makes everything fun, maybe when things aren’t soppouse to be fun, but thats the type of person everyone should be. Aunt Peg has really strong beliefs and tend to follow everything she believes in and she does not like to follow people. She is her own person and will always make her own decions. She makes 13 envelopes giving directions to have her niece follow and hopefully she will end up living alife everyone wants to live. Aunt pat ends up getting cancer and when she passes away she ends up sending the letters away to nieceand she is then on a voyage that no body really knows about, but aunt Pats roommate. I think she is a huge factor of this book and will end up making this book a great book.

The book that i am reading this semester would be called Karma By: Cathy Ostlere. This would be a novel in verses, so he genre would be romance. I have read about half of the the book so far. I think this book is quite confusing because it jumps from one character to another. Even though it tells you when the charalcter is coming up, I get confused on what I last read. I really like what the book is trying to get out though. It explains the fact that girls fall for stupid things that guys do,but in the end the guy falls for the same thing but less obvious. I loved the way the auhor made the main character. She made her grow through out he book. Which makes me as the reader reallly fall into reading the book alot easier. I hink this book is going to turn into alot like the movie John Tucker Must Die. Everyone wants revenge on this guy who makes every girl just feel awful about herslef. I really hope this book isn’t really predictly

I have read the book “It Happened To Nancy” By annymonous Author. This book is about how this girl went to this one concert, to a band that her friends and her liked very much. It was so busy and packed that Nancy got lost in the crowd after the concert and decided to wait on the corner of street hoping to find her aunt or friends. Instead of finding her friends she found this guy named Collion who was extremly nice to her. He also offered to help Nancy with finding her family and friends. Nancy thought this guy was so nice and kind, that he could do no harm to her. By the end of the night she couldn’t find he friends or family so Collion decided to give her a ride home. When she got home her mom was so mad that a stranger just randomly brought her home. Through all of what was going on she really liked Collion, she thought that he could end up be her best friend. Through time that happened they were really good friends, best friends actually. You know what they say about a boy and a girl being best friends, that in the end one or both will fall in love with each other. That did happen when they kept sneaking out of the house to have picnics, and boat trips. Finally one night when Nancy’s mom went out of town she had Collion over and he then took advantage of her. After all that happened he didn’t say anything, he just got out of the bedroom and left without saying a word.  She ended up never talking to Collion again and she also ended up telling her mom what had happen. Yes, her mom was upset be she understood what was going on. a couple of months after all this happen she started to feel really, really sick so she went to the hospital and got tested for an STD. In the end result she Had aids and a couple years later she had died from AIDS.  My favorite part of this book would be ” I ran all the way from the bus to my house, because I knew Collion was going to call me. I just knew it!” (page 9) This is important because you always think you can trust the other person right away because they are really nice and sweet in the begining, but in reality they turn into something you never wanted to start with them in your life. Thhey are only nice because its the first apperance.

12 NovBook Review

I absolutely loved this book to the extreme. “What My Mother Doesn’t Know” by Sonya Sones is basically the life of a lot of the teenagers, and what they go through during high school. Even though most of the time in reality the popular girls don’t go after the non-jocks guys. In this book it made everyone look at the whole typical high school relationship at a different level and everyone got alone with other people. It actually sent out a message to other people other than just the popular people. The book came off as one of those books that everything happens the same, like a “fairy tale” ending. At the end it just shocks everyone and I think that is a really cool way to put a book into place. The way Sonya Sones puts the words of this book makes me love it even more. She gets to the point real quick and not to mention the it gets to the point real quick which makes you keep wanting to read more and more. I realized that the way she puts these books, the characters respond to the situation real quick and it makes me really enjoy it because keeping suspense drives me insane. The character in the book was also perfect, you just think that “Sophie” just comes off as straight popular, but she’s the popular that is hidden from her “friends”. Also, the jock boyfriend was really typical and I like how she put it exactly the way it was.

Reading the book “What My Mother Doesn’t Know” by: Sonya Sones is a book full of the unexpected. “I wish I could put an ad in the paper: WANTED DESPERATLEY- the boy who owns arms and eye that held me at the Halloween dance. Haven’t been able to think about anything else since that night. Haven’t been able to breathe. Call 555-9910 before I shrivel up and die!(page 159)” This passage explains a whole lot about the main character. Just like every other girl in high school she wants the perfect boyfriend and being popular and all she doesn’t look beyond jock boundary. So this passage has a lot of meaning, and to help it all, it’s not all in the begging of the book it’s right in the middle so you don’t really know how the character is until this point. To point this all, the character is really confusing at first, but in the end you realize all of her points that she has. Sophie, The main character is the typical popular girl who everyone loves, she’s not mean she is extremely nice. Sophie is like every high school girl, wanting to find “true love” well she’s not finding it with her boundary of the jock crew.  She loves art and the beautiful nature around her. Her goal is to found the man she loves and has a lot of interest. She doesn’t understand that the guys that she has been looking for are all wrong. She then finds the guy but he is a nobody in the school, everyone makes fun of him, but she finds perfect in everything she does. She hides this connection that she has with him until she realizes she doesn’t care. Until she’s the talk of the school, everything goes downhill until he proves everyone that he really likes her. She out spoke everyone and proves everyone that people are different but you cannot judge a book by its cover.

09 NovReader Response

“what my mother doesn’t know” by: Sonya Sones is a young adult genre. I have completely finished the book and I loved everything about it. The basic summary is this girl named sophie who is one of the most popular girls in the school and she is obviously dating the super side quarterback jocky guy. In the middle of the relationship she realized that this whole “perfect” life thing isn’t at all what she wants so she decides to end everything the her “super hot” boyfriend. The whole school is shocked and everything changes. She does things, good things that her mom doesnt really  think she would do because she fell with the wrong crowd before. What her mom or anyone know, is that she has been going to the art exhibit in town with this total not cool guy who is called Murphy and everything he did was a mistake and everyone would make fun of him even if it wasnt worth making fun of him for. Through the whole story she was hiding that she really liked him and everything and he didnt really like the whole fct that she was embarassed so he told her to find out what she wanted to do and they took a break but at the very end she came out a proved to everyone that they liked eachother and everything was perfect. In this book, I wouldn’t change anyhting about the book besides the fact that I wish it never ended because I loved reading it.

02 JunThe Children Learn Right From Wrong

In To Kill A Mockingbird By: Harper Lee, The children learn right from wrong through many events in the novel, but Atticus teaches them specifically about how you should stand up for what you believe in” You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” (pg30).  Atticus says this to the kids to make sure that they understand that you can’t just judge something by the way they look or act. He says this because of his case, he has an African American as a client and he knows that Tom is right but just because he’s a little different people won’t believe him, which means they won’t believe the truth. The case isn’t the only thing that people are judging and making rumors about, but they are also making rumors about Boo Radely, which Atticus didn’t really want, the kids to believe. I think that the case teaches them the more about standing up for what you believe in because even though Atticus’s side of the family like Aunt Alexandra and the grandma didn’t like that Atticus was a “(n-word) lover” (pg 83) he still fought for what he thought was right and nothing really stopped him. Atticus gets called bad names and also gets threatened and most of the time  Scout and Jem usually show up when this happens, which I think the author did on purpose because then they can actually see/understand what he is going through  even though other people might not like it. I think things like this is kind of hard to teach someone who is a bit younger but if I was Scout or Jem I would kind of understand what Atticus was trying to hint out and that’s was a really good way to understand.

01 JunInterview questions

  1. Describe the plot of the book. The plot of the book is that the main characters family is falling apart so he tries to change.

  • What is the major conflict in your book?
  • The major conflict is that “happy faces” family is all falling apart his parents are divorced and in the middle of the book his brother dies which gets a lot worse!

  • What causes the conflict to occur? What are some of the obstacles that lead to the conflict?  Some of the causes of the conflict is that happy faces dad is an alcoholic and yells and screams and does nothing all day so then his mom and him move which gives him a chance to “start a new life”

What is the most exciting part of the plot? Is this when the conflict is resolved? The most exciting part of the plot is that happy face is really popular and he changed everything and got a new start and now everything is better.

  • How is the conflict resolved? Is this what you expected? Explain.
  • The conflict is resolved when his parents split up and he goes with his mom and his brother went with his dad and they didn’t really speak. I didn’t really expect that he was never going to talk to his dad again. Because if I was him that would be really hard to do.
  1. Describe the setting in the book. What visual images do you see in your head? Give examples in the book that lead you to these images.

The setting mostly took place at usually his house or at his new school and the school seemed like a small school a school where everyone knew everyone. His house was this small apartment and he usually seemed like it was the only place that he could get things out.

  • Use the sensory images: visual, taste, smell, movement, etc.
  • How does the setting relate to your own world?

The setting relates to my world because at our school it’s pretty small and everyone knows who the “new” kid is and why he moved and what his past was and our school is pretty judgmental like the school in the book is.

  1. Describe an important symbol in the book. What is the symbol? What does the symbol represent? The important symbol in this book is probably his journal, he writes everything in it and this how the story is  written the book is his journal
  2. What effect do the events in plot have on the characters?
  • How do the characters change throughout the book?
  • Happy face changes because in his old school he had no friends and he was always the one who was known as the kid who sat in the corner and wrote in a notebook. But at his new school he was pretty cool, well known invited to parties and everyone knew him as Happy face.
  • Do some of the characters not change? Why? Explain.
  • I don’t think that the dad changes really you don’t hear of him much after the divorce but he seems like the same because if he changed then happy face would go back to him.
  • Describe a questionable action by one of the characters. Do you think they were right or wrong? Why? I didn’t really get why Happy face lied to everyone about his brother dying. By then in the end I understood that he didn’t want to tell people that he stole happy faces girlfriend while he was drunk and drove around and killed both of them and people would think that his brother was a murder but he really wasn’t
  • Compare and contrast two characters in your book. Happy Face and his Brother Jake they looked a lot alike and could pull off being twins but the way they act is so different, Jake is naturally a stud and gets all the girls and has the special touch but then happy face has to work for he gets so nervous around girls and doesn’t really know what to say ever.
  1. Describe an important passage in the book. Why is it important?
  2. What other books or stories could you compare this book to? How are they similar? How are they different? This book is kind of like the book the by the time you read this, because they are both written in a journal. And someone important to both of them die.
  3. Where there any words that you did not know the definition? Did you look the word up in the dictionary? If you didn’t, how did you determine what the word meant?
  4. Was there a moment in the book when you were surprised, angered, upset, excited or happy? Describe the scene and what evoked this emotion.
  5. I was kind of surprised that they just left his dad by himself and didn’t ever visit him or talk about what was going on with him.
  6. Are there any parts of the story that are confusing? Why? Not really
  7. If you could ask the author one question, what would it be and why? I would ask the Author why happy face was the title when the whole book was depressing
  8. Would you recommend this book to someone else? Why or why not? Use specific examples from the book to answer this question. Yes! It’s a super good book its really easy to read and its kind of the life of a high school student but no one really realizes it

25 MayHealth and Obesity

For this project I worked with Megan K. and Allie H. We chose to study Health and Obesity the risk and health problems that this leads into. We also discuss how reasturants are helping or not helping with the obesity problem.

If you asked a child what the definition of obesity is what do you believe they would say? Do you think they have ever heard of it?  Children are not taught about obesity at a young enough age thus causing people not to know what healthy food actually is. If they would be taught at a younger age maybe the rate of childhood obesity would decrease.

In today’s society children are becoming obese and getting health diseases like diabetes. “An estimated 13 percent of children and adolescents ages 6-19 years are overweight” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). This number has almost doubled in the past two decades. A lack of physical activity is growing throughout our nation and causing this problem. Obesity is causing more health problems than smoking heavy drinking or poverty. Just doing 30 minutes of physical activity a day could help so much throughout your childhood and even on to your adult hood.

The exact definition of obesity is very fat or over weight (Dictionary.com). Children and teens are becoming very obese and very unhealthy also most children have no idea what obesity is! “Between 16 and 33 percent of children and adolescents are obese” (American Academy of child and adolescents Psychiatry). Obesity is one of the highest medical conditions out there, it is easy to find but really hard to cure. Children learn less about obesity each day; children probably don’t know the difference between fruits and vegetables. It’s not just schools that should teach children but families should be able to cook a home cooked meal instead of going out to eat every day, they are also not teaching our kids the right way.

Restaurants use all sorts of tactics, from toys of the month to fun mascots, which are infecting the young minds into thinking that eating their unhealthy food is good.  This is a cause of the growing childhood obesity problem.  The toys are giving children the wrong message; giving them incentives for eating unhealthy.  Some people think it’s a good idea to just get rid of them all together.  Blogger Heather Moore believes there’s a better solution.  “Replace the unhealthy fast food with more nutritious options and give children an incentive to eat that” (Heather Moore, Care2 blogger).  This idea would promote healthy eating and will help fight obesity in children.  Along with toys, mascots lure children into fast food restaurants trap.  Children recognize fast food mascots better than historical figures and other people of important stature.  This is a sad, but true fact that Morgan Spurlock proved in his documentary Super-Size Me.  These mascots brainwash children into thinking that eating unhealthy food is fun.  The fast food industry is one of the major causes of childhood obesity, and they’re the ones who can change it by promoting healthy food.

Everyone is getting busier and busier, people don’t have time to just make a home cooked meal so they go out to eat and eat quick meals that aren’t healthy for you. Something we could do to help this isn’t just by cutting down fast food restaurant but having schools teach children about what kind of foods are the good foods or the bad and having school lunches have a little healthier food in lunch lines. Also in most schools they have cut gym or physical education classes due to money. Gym is exercise and we all need exercise. It would be a lot less expensive due to bills and things like that

To support our essay, we created a timeline of how obesity increased over many years. The purpose of this visual argument is to show the viewers how much people know and should know about obesity and the health risks.

16 MayMovie Review

The movie is different from the book because in the book I thought it was more explaining and things were more detailed. I like the book more because it told a lot more then the movie did and also I liked the ending a lot more in the book then in the movie.

I think that Atticus was best represented in the book to the movie, when I was reading the book I saw this guy with glasses and dress very well and tall. It was just like it in the movie too. Also the way he talked in the movie went alone with what he says in the book too. I think a character from the book that wasn’t really what I expected was Dill because in the book he seemed like a normal kid that wasn’t annoying and then in the movie he seemed like a pest.

My favorite scene from the movie was when Mr. Cunningham came by the Finches house and Scout say him and was clueless about helping Atticus out, I liked this part the best because it was just like the book I didn’t really picture it another way.

I was Disappointed how Mr. Radely showed up. I didn’t really like the way he was just behind the door and it wasn’t as surprising as I thought it would be. I would have had it more surprising then just have him right behind a door.
