    Origins of Names

    2010 - 10.27

I read the book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. In this book the two main characters names are Cameron and Zach, but I don’t think they fit the characters very well. Cameron and Zach are very normal names, but I doubt many people actually know what they stand for.

Cameron is the narrator, and also the main character. Her name stands for “Crooked Nose”. Now I have no idea how in the world I would relate someone sweet and smart like Cameron, to having a crooked nose. She is pretty girl, who would never do anything mean on purpose. So why would the author pick a name like Cameron, which means Crooked Nose?

Next there is Zach, who is the one of the spy boys who come to the Gallagher Academy. His name means “Remembrance of the Lord”. Once again, I don’t know how I would relate Zach to “Remembrance of the Lord”. Zach is very mysterious and doesn’t let us know very much about him. At times he is a nice boy, but other times he can be very sneaky and arrogant when he is put in too much power.

If anything, I think the two names should be switched around. Although you would be giving a girl a boys name and a boy a girl’s name, they would fit each other much better. I don’t think the author really thought much about the names she was giving her characters, because they don’t fit their personalities one bit.

    Cammie as the Narrator

    2010 - 10.27

I am reading the book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. Cammie is the narrator and book is told in 1st person, and if it was told by anyone else other than Cammie, it would be a completely different book. Cammie is the main character and faces the most challenges throughout the book. It’s nice that she is the narrator because then we get to know how she feels about certain things and certain people. If someone else was the narrator, we would have no idea how Cammie was feeling, unless she told the narrator.

Also, if the book was in 2nd or 3rd person, it would also be a completely different book. The narrator would be explaining things from the point of view as if they were there, but not participating in anything that is going on. Cammie on the other hand had been participating in everything that was happening. She had pretty much the center of everything that had been happening, so to get the most information out of the book, I know that making Cammie the narrator was the best choice.

    Mine and Cammie’s Similarities

    Mine and Cammie’s Similarities

As I am reading the book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter, I am realizing that Cammie and I are a lot alike. Obviously, she goes to a school for spies and I just go to a regular school, so we are not perfectly alike. Though, the reasons we are alike is the way we think and sometimes act.

Cammie likes things to be very organized, just like me. If one thing is out of order we will both not be very happy. Also, Cammie is a total mom’s girl, and freaked out when her friends made her do something behind her moms back, even though it was for a good reason. I am somewhat like that too, but I never had to do something as bad as she did behind her moms back.

These are the reasons I think Cammie and I are very alike. Her everyday lifestyle is incredibly different than mine, though as I was reading I found very many ways that we are similar.

Blog Post For Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy

I read the book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. At the point in my book right now, Cameron was talking to Zach about their parents. Zach told Cammie that his parents were part of the CIA. Cammie’s parents were also part of the CIA so now she feels like she can relate to him a little more. She told him that a couple years ago her dad went on a mission and never came back; no one knows what happened to him. Zach then tells Cammie that just because you don’t know, doesn’t mean that somebody far away doesn’t know.

I expect that Cammie is going to go on a mission to find out what happened to her dad. She is a very adventurous person and likes to know what the real story is for everything. Also her nickname is Chameleon, which means that no one see’s her when she doesn’t want to be seen. Also, she has always had a competition with Zach, so I think she is going to find out what happened to her dad. Just to prove to Zach that she is a better spy that he thinks she is. Cammie always wants to be the best, and I’m pretty sure she is going to go under cover to find out the real truth about her father.
