I read the book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy by Ally Carter. In this book the two main characters names are Cameron and Zach, but I don’t think they fit the characters very well. Cameron and Zach are very normal names, but I doubt many people actually know what they stand for.
Cameron is the narrator, and also the main character. Her name stands for “Crooked Nose”. Now I have no idea how in the world I would relate someone sweet and smart like Cameron, to having a crooked nose. She is pretty girl, who would never do anything mean on purpose. So why would the author pick a name like Cameron, which means Crooked Nose?
Next there is Zach, who is the one of the spy boys who come to the Gallagher Academy. His name means “Remembrance of the Lord”. Once again, I don’t know how I would relate Zach to “Remembrance of the Lord”. Zach is very mysterious and doesn’t let us know very much about him. At times he is a nice boy, but other times he can be very sneaky and arrogant when he is put in too much power.
If anything, I think the two names should be switched around. Although you would be giving a girl a boys name and a boy a girl’s name, they would fit each other much better. I don’t think the author really thought much about the names she was giving her characters, because they don’t fit their personalities one bit.
