What type of reader am I? I seem to get asked this question every year it feels like. I do enjoy reading, but it is not something I do as a hobby all the time. If I do find a book I really enjoy, I will read it whenever I get the chance, but it doesn’t happen all the time. When I start out a book, I usually enjoy it.
I don’t really have favorite genera, it just depends on how well I can relate to the book, and if it is about something I am interested in. if I do find a book that I really loved, I usually will go back to the author.
When it comes to getting a book, I usually like to pick my own. It allows me to search new areas usually if I get to choose my own book. Teachers usually chose the same type of book. And I do enjoy a story that I can learn from, but almost always teachers want a lesson out of there book. I like to read books for pleasure, not for a personal lesson that I can or already have read in other school books.
My feelings about the book I read this quarter were scattered. I loved the book, but the action happened way to fast, I was able to follow and understand easily, but I wish is would have lasted longer, and that the author would have dragged it out a bit longer.
I didn’t learn much through the different readings this quarter. And again that is what makes reading a lesson to me. My book was about a kid losing his cousin to a shooting with cops, and then having to learn with it, and not doing drugs anymore. What I learned is not to do stupid and illegal things, but again, I think I would know that by now with all the things teachers and parents tell us.
For the second quarter I am going back to one of my favorite authors, Stephen King. The man is really demented, but his books are fantastic. To improve on my reading, I will really think about every detail he says, think and imagine if it was right in my face, and then continue to read. He usually has enough detail for that to happen.
The hardest part of reading for me is having to write about it. Easiest thing is doing the reading.
To pick a book, I usually go after an author I have read from before, pick up a random good looking book, and read the back cover, or get a recommendation from a friend. Reasons I don’t finish a book are plentiful. I can get lost in the book, and give up, don’t find it interesting anymore, or enjoy it, but find something else I would rather do, and than forget all about the book.
A good book has action suspense, and drama. All these things added together can either create something really awesome, or terrible, depending on the story line, and what the story is all about.
I do believe this is reading, if it is meant to be a book, and meant to be used as a book, and has the same meaning as a book, than it’s a book. For an example, if you own one of those kindles, you can download books onto it, and then your reading.
