Figurative Language in TKAM

“Rain-rotted shingles drooped over the eaves of the veranda ;…)” (Lee 8)
This is an example of personification. It is giving the rain-rotted shingles the human characteristic of drooping. This passage help describe the setting, which happens to be the Radley’s house.
“The old fire truck, killed by the cold, was being pushed from the town by a crowd of men.” (Lee 69)
This is another example of personification. It is giving the fire truck the human characteristic of dying or being killed. This passage is being used to describe the situation that the fire truck is in and what is being done to deal with it.
