Reader’s Profile
I read a realistic fiction book this quarter and I really liked how I could sometimes relate to what was happening but then other times there were things that you would never think to happen. Some types of reading I do outside this class are History assignments we get every night, I get a monthly issue of some magazines that I like to read, and also just reading some books for fun. I like to read fantasies the most out of all genres because there can be no way it could be true, so it can never be wrong. I think I enjoy reading magazines the most because they always have useful things and they are interesting to read about different things every month.
I enjoy reading books and stories that I have chose on my own rather then that the teacher has because if the teacher chooses something that doesn’t interest me I have more of a chance of getting off task. But if I choose it on my own I will most likely want to read it and enjoy it so I will read it more. I also think though that if the teacher chooses the book it could bring you into new genres and authors that you might really like, or then find out that you don’t and either way could be a good experience.
I feel the books I chose were something I would expect myself to read. UI knew I would like them because I had read books by the author and saw some of the movies too. My feelings were close to the characters when I ended the books because they all had something that came close to their heart which made me want to connect with the story. I think I learned something big about people. I learned that people come form many different places and go on different roads but in the end everyone has feelings and we are all the same in that way. I learned about myself that I can connect with people I have only little things in common with and if I would try to be friends with someone new and find just one thing in common it could make a great friendship in the end.
To improve as a reader I think I will try to read genres that I wouldn’t think of reading. I think this will give me a chance to see what kind of new books I like and also learn to read different types of writing styles. I think a genre I want to read would be mystery. They seem to have a way to pull people in and it might make me want to read more.
I think the hardest part of reading is reading something you aren’t really into, and then getting off track and not understanding what is happening in the book or story. This sometimes gets me frustrated because you have nothing to do if you don’t understand except to go back and try to read it again. I think the easiest part of reading is when you get connected in a book right away and then you have no problem with reading the rest because you know what is happening and you can understand also. I choose a book but the title, if it doesn’t sound interesting I just put it back. I think I should one time just read it even if it doesn’t sound interesting because you never know unless you try. I have quit reading a book before; I did because it was very hard to understand because it was a murder book and it was hard to follow so I just quit and tried a new book.
I think a book is good if it really catches you right tin the beginning and never lets you go. It never gets boring and you always want to keep on reading more. I think these are the best books because they are the ones that you don’t want to put down and that you can understand. I think a book is bad if it is hard for me to follow and very confusing. These books are the books I don’t want to read because if you don’t know what is going on you really can’t get connected to the book and like it a lot.
I think that reading online and out of the book is the same to me. I would feel the same way reading it on the computer or a mobile device as in a book. People might feel differently because you don’t have something in your hands but it still would have the same words and characters and nothing inside the book that matters would change. I feel it would get some getting used to which might affect the book you read the first few times but after that I think that the reading would be no different.
