CJ May:Grades vs. Cyber English

Report cards say multiple things about an individual. It shows if their trying, progressing in class, and earning their grades. If their report cards show no improvement and even doing worse than before, it shows their lack or respect for school, their teachers, and themselves. In order to do well in school you have to respect yourself and your future. If ones report card shows many D’s and F’s, they may not be trying. If ones report card shows many A’s and B’s, you know their education is important to them.

During Cyber English, your progress can only be shown in your blog. The amount of work you put into those blogs show how well you did. The majority of the effort you did does result into your grades but if your blog post show that they have improved, then only your blog can show your true quality in Cyber English.

CJ April: Book Choice

When we choose the books for independent reading I think we feel the freedom we get when we are allowed to read what ever genre or subject we want. When I choose a book and I don’t like it I can’t complain because I’m the one who chose it. Also I have the choice to get a new book. When we are to read books like To Kill a Mockingbird and don’t like it we know we have to but don’t have to enjoy it. When we read books we choose we imagine things clearer or in our own way. When we read books that are chosen for us we know there’s a lesson to be learn so we look for it deliberately. There’s nothing wrong with either ways of reading just as long as we understand the book itself.

The access of Power School is very important to me and my GPA. Of course Power school shows my GPA every day while it can be updated by all the teachers I have. This allows me to know what I’ve improved on in the past semesters, quarters; I can even see the previous classes I’ve had. While Power School is running I’m allowed to see if I can work on bad grades or see if I’m missing any assignments given to me in the past. As long as Power School is accessible to me every day for me to check, I can observe my grades and see if my GPA is getting closer and closer to a 4.0.

Not only is this a benefit to me but also to my parents, and many other parents. Once they know how to log in on their child’s name, they can see if they have improved or how well they are doing in school. I’m sure that seeing good grades and a high GPA is a great thing to see everyday. Power School even reminds me of the goals I have set and is a great influence on my grades, for the most part.

Do you feel more confident now than you did at the beginning of the year about any of your skills: computer? writing? reading? Explain.

During my Cyber English classes I have learned new things and improved my skills. It helps to know what you do wrong sometimes and if you don’t fix them, you don’t improve. Now that I have new skills I gain more ideas and thoughts on how to write my blogs. I’m never nervous or anxious when it comes to writing a new blogs because I know how it should be done and the criteria to follow by. When following the ‘morals’ of blogs it gives you a guideline; it helps keep you on task. Before when we learned incomplete sentences I figured out what I was doing wrong. It also helped during that lesson because I knew how to fix them in the end.  I guess you could say I am more confident when writing the blogs. Writing blogs isn’t the easiest task in the class but it still takes skill and hard work to get it done, that’s why if I try my best I know I did a good job. I can see myself fin the future succeeding and do better if I just remember what I’ve learned in this class. That’s why I need to take this class seriously; for my own future.

Who’s Been Reading?

Our student blogs are a great way to express what’s on our mind whenever we are reading a book or given a subject to think over. But who read’s our blogs after we posted them for anyone to see; peers, teachers? Who knows?

For me I’ve already noticed a couple of comments given out to support my posts or even to ask questions. I know there names and see them day to day. They are my peers and neither one of them gave me a comment as an assignment. Merely to just let me know that I’m doing a good job.

I am not certain if teachers were to read ALL of our blogs. They may just have time to read some of their students’ blogs to see how they’re doing. I haven’t received any comment from a teacher yet so I could only imagine what they would say about my posts.

The most frustrating thing that has happened for me so far is reading the book Speak; only because I did not enjoy the book much at all. Reading this book wasn’t enjoyable because it related too much to real life. It may have been fiction but for any fiction book to have a plot that relates to stories you’ll hear commonly, isn’t all that interesting.

I overcame the challenge only to complete my assignments. Otherwise it was still a boring book to read. Writing about it was simple enough but reading it for joy other than homework wasn’t so easy.

I believe that there aren’t that many books like speak. Most fiction would have adventure, mystery; but not every day life situations. I’d like to think of this story to be somewhat true in others lives but not in all ways as you read the book Speak.

An outsider to have visited my blog would be a big thrill to me. It means new eyes, fresh audience. They don’t believe it’s an assignment like the student body does. This will give them a better opinion on how I write, what I read, and how I put it.

A new audience is pretty good for my future because if I ever wish to continue my goal to become a journalist or a columnist, I’ll have a jump start if my blog is liked by outsiders.

Some of this seems too boring to the student body. We think it’s just an assignment we all are forced to do in able to succeed in class. I find it an opportunity to work on my writing skills as a student or as a journalist. For my audience to gain new members of opinion is a great deal if I want to get somewhere.

Peer Observations

My favorite thing about our blogs is that we actually get to put out our opinions, yes it’s mostly an assignment but I think it actually fun at times. I like talking about books I’ve read so that when people read them they think “she reads pretty interesting books”; giving them a better taste of who I really am.

For example, I’ve read adult books before and I relate them to real life, if an adult or a peer didn’t think my reading level was that high, they might ask me a few things. I was told I was good with words (sometimes!!!) but mostly when I’m writing a story or given an essay to write up.

This is my first time doing actual blogs and I think it helps me understand how I should relate to the world, relate to peers, and relate to fellow readers of my class. It’s fascinating to read others posts and see what they think and how they use their word choice. I could relate to many people here and I find that cool.

I hope that Cyber English 9 will teach me new ways and styles of how authors think, create ideas, research, and even relate their books to the real world. I want to know this because it is crucial knowledge if I ever want to become an author or journalist myself. I need to learn step by step how authors write books, news paper columns, anything so I can do the same and even exceed for my future career. If I were to know the best way to write, read, or even put things into creative sentences, my writing style will sky rocket with as much talent as I can dish out with pen, keys, just anything so I can write with my own style, but with guidance of cyber English 9.
