The book Act of Valor by Dick Couch and George Galdorisi was a very well written book that I enjoyed the whole time I read it. If I had to tell someone about the book I would tell them that it was a wonderful novel and that they should really read it. The book started with a team of navy seals getting called in for a mission that they had to go on, with the mission on hand they went out and completed it cleanly but will doing this mission they found out more information about a terrorist attack on the U.S. that could kill millions of U.S. citizens. With the discovery of the information the team goes in to risk their lives for the great nation they fight for.
In the book Act of Valor there are many different characters that play big roles in the book. One of the main ones is Dave Nolan who is Chief Petty officer for the seal team. He is a tenacity, tough, self- reliance, with a generous dose of community and ethnic pride. He is a caring guy who will do anything for his team or as they say in there book the seal team family. Nolan cared about his whole team even Engel who was his closes friend and who had a child on the way. He cared about his family a lot and loved kids but even with them he know he had to serve for his country. He had a father that was an NYPD cop as with one of his brothers. His other 2 brothers were firemen in the FDNY and were known highly but sadly after the 9/11 attack he lost 2 brothers, one was a cop and one was a fireman. Even after this trouble event he went back to Colorado to go one his second tour.
My favorite passage from the book is this passage. “Roark Engel dives onto the grenade, cradling it to his chest and the same ceramic plate that had stopped the other grenade less than twenty-four hours ago. Only this grenade is much more powerful, and is does not need a distance of travel to arm itself, only time. The explosion lifts Engel eighteen inches into the air and deposits him back onto the hard-packed dirt floor. He absorbs most of the blast and a good portion of the detachable-link, circular shrapnel band that was wrapped around the explosive core. Bothe Dave Nolan and Ray Diamond absorb some of the shrapnel but little of the blast. They will live, but their lieutenant will not.’. This passage is important in the book because this shows how dedicated Engel was team and he would do anything for their survival even if that means he puts his life on the line. I this passage sadly his life was taken and he never got to see his child be born.
The book I am reading second quarter was Killing Lincoln by Bill O’Reilly. It is a biography about Abraham Lincoln life and his term in office until the time he was killed in the theater. The characters involved in the book are the people in his life who he has meet along the way through the years of his life. He was a strong man with a little bit of a fighting side to him that made him likeable by other people. He had a lot of anger management problems through the first part of the book. I’ve liked the first part of the book and I’m really excited to read the rest.
The book Killing Lincoln was a very well written book that describes in great details the life of Abraham Lincoln. Abraham was a respected man in his day but was not who most people thought he was. He was a tough guy who was never scared of a fight he broke up a fight in the middle of one of his speeches to help a friend and it lead to the city he was in to vote for him cause the kind of guy he was. Another thing most people didn’t know about him was that his was best friend with a plantation owner who owned many slaves. After seeing the lifestyle they were put through it really pushed him to get slavery abolished. I really recommend this book to others because it tells a big part in American history. I really enjoyed the book because Abraham Lincoln is my favorite president and I love learning history about him. He amazes me on how such a great person can change the country so greatly like he did.
The book im reading for the first quarder is Act of Valor by Dick Couch and George Galdorisi. The genre of my book is non-fiction because it is based on a true story that happened in America. The main plot behind the stroy is about a SEAL team who goes back in to battle with eachother to stop terrorist activaty. They go in to save a undercover CIA who has be caught and after saving her find out about a massive terroist attack on the US in main different places around the US that can put tons of US people in harm. The charactors in the book are Lieutenant Roark Engel, Chief Petty Officer Dave Nolan, and the rest of the guys on SEAL team seven. The book is good right now but already had a twiste with Engel announcing that he is going to have a kid before he heads back with the SEAL team on the mission. I really like the book and i hope it stays as good as it started.
This year Cyber English has helped me a lot in school. It helped me become a better writer and helped me understand writing a lot more in everyday school work. With writing the blogs and posts I have became better at spelling and using the computer. I us to be really bad at spelling but once I got good at writing blogs I started to get better. Also when I started Cyber English I had trouble using some of the software on the computer like the newspaper site, word and even power point but now I know how to us these things and I can even write and make a blog post with out even thinking.
This year the best book I have read was Never Stop Pushing by Rulon Gardner. I like this book so much because I was very inspiration for anyone to ready because It showed that now mater how good or bad you are at something you can always accomplish your goals that you set for your self. Rulon did just that by being a JV wrestling till senior and only have a 50% winning record to becoming an Olympic gold metals in 2000 that coming back to the next Olympic to take a bronze. The book that would also be up there was Percy Jackson and the Last Olympians because it was a book that always kept you on the edge of your set and always made you want to read on. It was one of those books that was action pack and had a lot of excitement even those some parts of the book where slow; most of it was really exciting and fast moving.
In the beginning of the year I was so nerves to write a blog and I didn’t know what to do. I was confuse about how to write it or if I was suppose to have a summery of the book. Then once the 1st quarter was coming to and end I started to understand it more and more. Than at the end of the year I new how to do it so well it was like second nature for me to do it I would just go on and do it. Also in the beginning of the year it took me forever to write one but now I can write them so fast that I can get them done in class and don’t have to do it at home.
This year has been a very exciting year in Cyber English. When I started the class I thought that is would be really boring class but now I like the class and think it was a great class for me to be in.
In the book Cirque Du Freak, Darren does not follow to his teacher’s orders and it gets back at him in the end. He does not throw away the slip for the freak show like his teacher told him. Instead he starts planning a time on when he is going to go to the show and watch it. He shows something that many people shouldn’t do and that was ling to his teacher and going to the freak show. “The freak show was all I could think about that night. I tried forgetting it but couldn’t, not even when I was watching my favorite TV shows.” He was so determined to find out what this freak show was about that he asked his mom about them. Another person he was ling to was his mom. He lied to her about staying up to late and ling about why he wanted to know about the show. “Anyways, what is all this about a freak show? Have you been staying up late, watching horror films? No I said.” He soon learns that ling and not telling the truth will hurt him in the end when he does go to the freak show and his world changes forever.

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, racism makes people act cruelly towards others. In the book it shows it a lot. “Mr. Finch. Mr. Tate was still planted to the floorboards. Bob Ewell fell on his knife. I can prove it”. This conversation was about how Bob Ewell died but he really didn’t because he went on a killing spree because he didn’t like African American and fell on his own knife and killed himself. In the book there was other people how didn’t like African Americans like the Gang of man who were going to kill Tom Robinson before he even had a trial because they didn’t think it was necessary. Another part in the book that showed racism was when Bob Ewell spat in Mr. Finches face. That showed racism because the only reason he did it was because Mr. Finch was protecting Tom Robinson in the case. There were a lot more parts that showed racism like the mob coming to kill Tom Robison and the jury in the trial standing up for Bob Ewell.
In my book Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan, a young book has a very strange hobby. Darren was a kid who loved to hunt and keep spiders. “I used to collect them when I was younger. I’d spend hours rooting through dusty old shed at the bottom of our garden, hunting the cobwebs for lurking eight- legged predators. When I found one, I’d bring it in and let it loose in my bedroom.” Even have the dream of spider that scared him he still loved to hunt for them when he could. “I had one who made a cobweb above my bed and stood guard for almost a month. Going to sleep, I used to imagine the spider creeping down, crawling into my mouth, sliding down my throat, and laying loads of eggs in my belly.” But even with his scary dream he still loved to do it. Then when he and his friends were at recesses they found this note to a Freak show. “Look what I found! Alan yelled waving a sorry piece of paper around under our noses.” When they found that note it changed them forever.
In the beginning of my freshman year I didn’t know what I was doing or what I was suppose to do but as this year is close to being over I have learned a lot and can do thinks that I didn’t even know excited when I started. This knowledge of writing a blog or using the internet is helping me a lot in school work and even every day life. I started my own account on a blog were you can talk about the upcoming wrestling season in Wisconsin or the past season that just happened. It is easy for me to write on that blog because of my knowledge I have from Cyber English. One of the things I had trouble with was hyper links in my posts and now I can do them with out thinking.
Being able to choose my own book in class is a very big advantage. If I wouldn’t be able to choose my own books I probably wouldn’t finish them. The advantage of choosing your own book is that you would be able to choose a genera that you like and you can read at your own speed. I found a lot more books that I like to read when you can pick your own and if you don’t like the book you are reading you can always just pick up another one. If you were assigned to a book you couldn’t do that and then you would be stuck reading a book you that don’t have any interest in.
