It is very important to choose your own Independent Reading book. When we had to pick a fiction book for the first semester it definitely made reading less fun for me. It never really have liked reading fiction books and that made picking a book under a certain category harder. But with being able to choose our own fiction book it made t fun to read fiction. Yes I did not like it the best but it definitely made reading and writing blog posts for that book more fun and easy. I really liked picking our Independent Reading book for the second semester because we could pick any genre. My favorite type of books to read are true stories, sports related or relate to life more than a fictional book would. This really made reading and writing blog posts fun and very easy for. I think it was easier to read because I actually wanted to read the book. Picking our own books to read really helps me in all of these ways.
Hello Nick S!
I agree with your point that we should be able to choose whatever books we want to read because by doing so, we become more motivated to read.
I am quite the opposite- I like reading fiction books better than non-fiction, but I just got done with reading this non-fiction book called, Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, and it was amazing.
Do you have any suggestions for some interesting non-fiction books?
I read that book, too Eman. I thought it was inspiring. But now, I’m worried that I might have been misled. What do you think of this recent controversy surrounding that book (allegations that some of it might not be true and that the non profit organization might not be allocating funds appropriately)?
I think that despite all of the recent controversies surrounding the book, I still find myself looking up to the feat that Greg Mortenson has accomplished. Some of the controversies surrounding the book are outright trivial such as the fact that the events didn’t quite take place in the same order. My point of view is that the schools that he put up for impoverished children serve as a testament to his goodwill and good hearted humanitarian work.
