The reasons I admire Doodle the most.

Posted by Samma O  Published in Short Fiction

The character I most identified with was Doodle from the Scarlet Ibis. Doodle reminds me of my baby cousin because she was born with a weak heart, but hers’ was not as weak as Doodles. I also like this Character the most because he never gives up when he wants to, his brother keeps him going so he learns to do things. He would always collapse after he stood for a long period of time but then got right back up. He felt like he wanted to give up but he doesn’t and I admire him for that. “I can’t walk, brother” he said, but that did not stop his brother from teaching him. Doodle was told he would never be able to walk or do the things other kids his age could do, but by his sixth birthday he could. Doodle changes through out the story because he grows in faith and he gets stronger each and everyday. I went through the same things he did when I was little, I was never really good at things. I was always the slowest one no matter what. I tried my hardest and pushed myself like he did and some how I got everything accomplished even if it didn’t work on my first try. He tried and tried and tried but never really got anywhere with it, until his sixth birthday when he walked up to his spot at the table and sat down. That’s why I admire Doodle the most.

The best imagery

Posted by Samma O  Published in Short Fiction

The story with the best imagery was Barba Nikos because it gave vivid details about Greek foods. “There is origanon there and basilikon and daphne and sesame and miantanos, all the marvelous flavorings that we have used in our food for thousands of years. The men of marathon carried small packets of these spices into battle, and the scents reminded them of their homes, their families, and their children.” When we read this in class my taste buds were tingling. I could smell them and tasted them. It was like I could taste it right there and then. It made me feel really hungry too. It’s like I was eating the food right out of the passage. It sounded so good me because I love Greek spices they’re really good. I also could smell them, like they were right there in front of me. It was the sweetest smell ever. I also imagined the fight and the soldiers taking the spices into battle with them. And when they got lonely I could see them taking the spices out and smelling them. It was like everything was right there in front of me. Everything was so real and I could see everything so perfectly.
