The title The Forbidden Game means a lot in the story. It means that Jenny and her group of friends are playing a game that they shouldn’t be playing. And they are also the only ones that can play the game because the game was made for them, but specifically made for Jenny. They are also doing things that they shouldn’t do, such as stealing money and leaving town. Jenny said “We are stealing money for a good reason, so that’s okay.”
Forbidden can also mean something you can’t have. Julian is in love with Jenny and he can’t have her but he won’t give up. Julian said “I love you Jenny and I won’t stop until I get you.”
The word Game can be interpreted as many things. It can be hunting, it can be just something fun, but I think in this particular book it means something that gets turned into something bad. Here are some examples of the games they are playing. The first game they play is in the paper house, where they all have to face their worst nightmares. The second game is called ‘Lambs and Monsters’ – like Cops and Robbers, with a deadly twist. One by one, the six friends will get kidnapped. If the last player finds the prison where the other players are trapped, the ‘Lambs’ win. And the third game is a game where they have to find three Spanish doubloons and use them to get across the bridge, where Tom is being kept.
The Forbidden Game means a lot in this story. I think that it means they are playing with something that they can’t have or they are playing with something they aren’t supposed to play with.
